I've found them usable in a more reserved context. To address your question, they tend to have a big sound but not obnoxiously so. Strings are particularly flexible: There's an option to set which position on the fingerboard is used. There are a lot of articulations and pretty deep sampling. Woodwinds are just OK (not terrible though). I have a decent number of other libraries (CSS, CSB, BBCSO, LASS, CineBrass, etc.) and more often than not end up using EWHO. There are pluses and minuses with Hollywood Orchestra. Would anyone mind sharing audio examples where they've used patches from Hollywood Orchestra (or any of Hollywood Strings, Woodwinds, Brass and Percussion) in a piece that doesn't sound like a Hollywood film score? Any thoughts on how useable the library is outside of the intended genre, and in conjunction with other libraries, would be much appreciated too. However, from experience I've learned that some libraries can sound great in all kinds of music (as an example I have Symphonic Orchestra Gold, again the demos aren't my style but I still find various parts of it useful in all kinds of styles) so I'm very curious as to how Hollywood Orchestra sounds in other contexts - say a very gentle, sparse piece, or a creepy horror theme, or a super upbeat happy/comedy theme, or as dressing on a sci-fi synth piece, or anywhere else you've used it, alone or with other libraries - no genre is too out there, I write music for games so I do a bit of everything.
